HACKNEY GT RIDES, RACES AND EVENTS FOR 2017

 

Hackney GT at the racesSpring is around the corner and summer beckons so we bet like us here at Hackney GT a lot of you are planning the riding diary through to autumn and beyond.   Here is a few of the events we wil be attending, recommend or  adding to our bucket list.  

Paris Roubaix sportive 8 April, Belgium.  The official sportive to the legendary race with a choice of 170km. 145Km and 70km .  Ride it on the Saturday and stay over to watch the pros on the Sunday.  A team from Hackney GT will taking part this year.  http://www.parisroubaixchallenge.com/us/ 

Beastway/Stevens MTB Series 2017 . London's only regular mountain bike race series .  25 years young this season! From the high days of Eastway and the rocky days inbetween it’s been a fantastic ride for so many and we love it.   Kick off  is Sat 29th April and then Wednesday nights  10, 17, 24, 31 MAY. 7, 14, 21, 28 JUNE. https://beastwaymtb.wordpress.com

 Bucks off Road Classic 14 May Buckinghamshire . One of the original off-road sportives.  Now in its 19th year, it a great local event with an excellent route. This year distances are 40,75,100 and 125km, which should ensure there is a distance for all abilities.  It is one that we attend every regauarly. http://www.bucksoffroadsportive.co.uk/index-3.html

Pedal Norfolk. Holkham. Norfolk 27-29 May . Three days of cycling events for the May Bank holiday.   A  cycling festival and a series of sportives in the stylish, luxurious  and stunning setting of  Holkham Hall. Today the estate and its farms are regarded as some of the best managed in the country. http://www.pedalnorfolk.co.uk 

Eroica Britannia 6-18 June. Derbyshire UK .  Somewhat the complete antidote to Mega Avalanche and some of the knarly events listed here and we love it.   Has to be the best cycle festival in the UK.   Happy times, vintage bikes, great music and a stunning location.   Book now for a fun weekend away and a slightly different sportive http://eroicabritannia.co.uk

Mega Avalanche. France 3-9 July . France. Something for the bucket list and something where maybe brains removed before the start line is advantage.  Happening bang in the middle of the French Alps.  Very much an alternative to the TDF which also pass nearby.  http://www.ucc-sportevent.com/en/megavalanche-alpe-dhuez-en/

RED HOOK CRIT - July 22nd  Greenwich .  Hackney GT is very proud to be the kit sponsor for Team One Life Cycle (more to come on that soon).  The London outing is at Greenwich peninulsa  https://redhookcrit.com .   Last year was an excellent event to spectate and this year having a team to get behind is going  to make it even more of great day out. 

Gorrick Torq in Your Sleep enduro. 27 Aug 17.  Yateley, Hampshire

The premier 12/6 hour weekend XC endurance event in the South and one of our favourites. Taking place over the August Bank Holiday weekend at Minley Manor, Hants there are age categories available for Solos, Pairs and Teams plus Single Speed and Fat Bike sub categories. The course covers a superb 8 mile figure of 8 circuit of heath land, beech woods, pine forest and open parkland. https://www.gorrick.com/racing/enduro12/

Tour of the Cornfields.  3 September. Cambridgshire.  Another legendary off-road sportive  and one Hackney GT actively support.  All profit goes to Eastern Cyclo-cross league youth development squad.  https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/events/details/160451/Tour-of-the-Cornfields-2017

55th 3 Peaks Cyclo-cross challenge. Sunday 24th September 2017 (TBC). Essential and super tough.  This is like no other cycle-cross race in the world and we love it.   Hard to get an entry but well worth putting your name down and keeping your fingers crossed.  Held in the stunning Yorkshire Dales and over their 3 highest peaks, it is a marmite event not for the feint hearted. http://3peakscyclocross.org.uk

Lea Valley summer Duathlon series .  Summer 2017.  Olympic park. Stratford.  For something a little bit different but on our doorstep, it's worth a go.   Full dates yet to be released but last year there was a midweek event once a month from May to September .  Check their website for further details http://www.veloparkduathlon.com

The Yak Attack  6-18 November - Nepal. Bucket List number 2.   We will get there one day.  This looks truly awesome. Mountains, oxygen deficit and the highest bike race in the world..... http://theyakattack.com

Parkrun Saturday mornings everywhere.  We love these events.   If you want to ditch your bike for 30mins and get an excellent workout there is nothing better.  Voluntary  run and a great community spirit .  We highly recommend this races https://www.parkrun.org.uk
